Agenda Items:

Athlete BBQ: The first annual student-athlete fall barbeque went very well. Some suggestions for the spring barbeque are to have more SAAC reps. help set-up and cook. Also to start the food earlier so when people come they will not have to wait. It was a great turn out and thank you for all the sports that brought food.

Ronald McDonald House: This is a community service opportunity where athletes can help families with kids in long-term hospital care. If you want more information, contact Karin Koller.

The Second Mike: This is another community services opportunity. Kids come once a month and visit with a "college friend". There are several dates to attend. Each meeting lasts about two hours in St. Mary’s gym. If you want more information, contact Kristen Cornicello.

Adopt-A-Team: There are a few adopt-a-team changes. Men’s Basketball will be with Water Polo and Women’s Lacrosse is with Volleyball. Teams that have completed their Adopt-A-Team are Softball (Men’s Soccer game), Men’s Lacrosse (Field Hockey game) Women’s Basketball (Football game) and Women’s Lacrosse will be attending the November 14th Volleyball game.

Adopt-A-Family: The Men’s and Women’s Track & Field team collected over $1400 at the Homecoming football game. This money will go towards the Adopt-A-Family program for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Special Olympics: Thank you to the teams that have signed up to volunteer for Special Olympics. Please make sure your team wears the same athletic apparel. The teams include: Football, Golf, Women’s Lacrosse, Softball, Volleyball, Women’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Swimming.

Run for Hunger: This annual event will be held on Tuesday, November 16th at 5:30th. If any teams are interested in running in it, please let Julie know.

Student-Athlete Academic Breakfast: The idea of having a breakfast for student-athletes with a G.P.A. of 3.5 and above for the previous semester was discussed. The breakfast would be preferred on the weekends.

Talent Show: The Talent Show is scheduled for Thursday, January 27th at 7:30PM. There will be no food afterwards. Karin Koller and Will Sheridan will be in the adverting committee to make flyers to post throughout the school about the Talent Show and that it is also a food drive where anyone attending must bring a non-perishable item. Kristen Cornicello will be heading up that committee. Some changes that were made regarding this event are as follows:

1. Judges- we would like a variety of staff to judge this event in different categories such as funniest, most talented, most creative, "worst" and crowd favorite.

2. Awards- suggested ideas about awards is to make 5 trophies for each award and every team who wins in that respected category will get the trophy and have their team name engraved on it and then it will be passed down from winner to winner. Each team who wins will keep it in their locker room or coaches office until the following year.

3. Approved Acts: The Acts must be approved by Julie and Mary Anne one week prior to the event.

Talent Show T-Shirt Design Contest: This year we decided to have the teams design the t-shirt for the talent show. Please have the design in by the next SAAC meeting and only use two colors. The judges for this contest will be Peter Neal, Mary Anne Dowling, and Amy Miller.

Proposed projects: Many projects were discussed to work on for the year. A professor’s luncheon was suggested to tie into Student-Athlete Appreciation week. The discussion included how many professors to invite, how many student-athletes, just inviting heads of departments or just to invite all the teachers who athletes have had in the fall. Another suggested project is the Adopt-A-Group program. Allie, Pat and Julie will get a list of groups, organizations and committees on campus that would be interested in participating in this. This program will more likely be in effect next spring or fall. The last project discussed is to extend dining hall hours. Practice gets out late for some teams and the dining halls do not accommodate for this.

SAAC By-laws and Constitution: This was discussed and minimal changes were made.

Next Meeting: December 5th at 8:00PM in ST.Mary’s classroom 016
