2012 - 2013 Season
2011 - 2012 Season
The Villanova Men's Club Volleyball team started off the new year on a good foot by adding a good freshmen class, one of which was Kevin Dixon, the younger brother of Nathan Dixon who was a junior on the team at the time. The team also did not graduate anyone from the previous year, and only had one senior on the team, the Magnificent El Capitan, Joe Shook. The Cats started off their official season a little rocky with a loss to Drexel in their first match, but then they turned the tides and remained undefeated the rest of the regular season, finishing 2nd in the East division to their week one foes, Drexel University. The 7-1 2nd place finish in the division still won them a birth into the MACVC conference tournament at DeSales University, and there the Cats were on fire. They went undefeated and made it to the finals to face their rivals, Messiah College, once again. The final match was a phenomenal one that went to three games to prove the victor. Messiah won the first game, but Villanova came back and won a great second game to force the match to the deciding 15 point third game. The third game went back and forth and finally ended as Messiah won with a final score of 21 - 19. It was a heartbreaking loss for the Cats, but it was again a great improvement from the previous year, and a great momentum booster going into the national tournament. On top of all of that, junior setter JJ Goddu was named to the All Tournament Team after a very strong day.
The team then traveled to Kansas City, MO to play in the NCVF National Tournament once again. There they were unstoppable, and unbeatable, going undefeated and winning the title in the DI AAA division! The Cats beat Santa Rosa in two games, 25 - 19 and 25 - 23 to take it all. Sophomore outside hitter Adam Dings was named the All Tournament MVP after an amazing tournament and an even better year. Adam, as well as junior middle hitter Piotr Kuczaj and junior libero Reid Phillips were named to the All Tournament First Team, and junior middle hitter Taylor Schumacher and junior setter Josh Kehler were named to the All Tournament Honorable Mention Team. It was a great cap to the end of the season for all, especially for the only senior, Joe Shook, as it was his last go around with the Villanova Men's Club Volleyball team. With all of the success in the 2011 - 2012 season, and with only graduating one senior, the team was very excited for the next year and the endless possibilities that could come from it.
To top it all off, the Villanova Men's Club Volleyball team was named "The Most Improved Club of the Year" by the Villanova Athletic Department, and was honored by these words: "It is due to the dedication of the club officers that the club team was able to make their league playoffs, the regional tournament, and finish first in their division at nationals. The club also works tirelessly with the Women's Varsity team day in and day out with practice and games to hone their craft and raise extra money for the club."
2010 - 2011 Season
The Villanova Men's Club Volleyball team started off the 2010 - 2011 season well by adding a few very strong freshmen to the team and only graduating one senior. The team had another good year, building on the strong foundation that they developed together in the 2009 - 2010 season. The Cats won the East division in the MACVC and earned a playoff birth to the conference tournament at Bloomsburg University. There they finished 3rd, losing to their conference rival, Messiah College, in a great semi-finals match. Sophomore setter Josh Kehler was named to the All Tournament Team after a great day and an even better season. The team then traveled to Houston, TX to attend the NCVF National Tournament where they competed in the DII division and finished 18th in the nation after a decent tournament. The Cats again knew that there was room for improvement, but considering the young team that they had and the improvements that they had made from the previous season, they were happy with the results and excited for the next season.
2009 - 2010 Season
The Villanova Men's Club Volleyball team started off the new year great by adding 8 strong freshmen to the roster. It was a rebuilding year for the Cats with such a young starting lineup, but this was only the beginning of a strong run for the team. The team had a good year and earned a playoff birth to the MACVC conference tournament and finished 5th after losing a tough match against Millersville University. The Cats then went to the NCVF National Tournament in Louisville, KY and finished 28th in Division II. Though it wasn't a great finish for the young team, it was a great learning experience and valuable to their early development.
2008 - 2009 Season
The Villanova Men's Club Volleyball team finished 2008 - 2009 season with a record of 6 and 5, including 4 straight wins over tough divisional opponents. This surge helped the Wildcats overcome a challenging early schedule that included several top opponents. Carried by senior captain Drew Lacy, Villanova improved steadily throughout the season. A steady core of returning players will also help to boost the team back to prominence next year.
Villanova's 2008 team finished 25th at the NCVF National Tournament in Dallas, Texas, where they competed in Division II. The team also finished with an overall record of 8-3.
